Heritage Christian Academy was started in the fall of 1976, during the nation’s bicentennial, as Englewood Christian School, with a target enrollment of 100 students in Kindergarten through sixth grades.
The congregation banded together and built the school building during the summer, and the school opened in the fall. The school was renamed in 1986 to Heritage Christian Academy, reflecting more accurately the overall mission of the school to affect a Christ-centered heritage. Education is an expensive pursuit, and funding is always challenging. Through the years, the school was maintained by gifts from generous patrons and the generosity and support of the congregation.
Teachers worked sacrificially, and parents stood behind the school providing solid support. The year 1998 was a turning point for Heritage Christian Academy. Late in 1997, the congregation voted to build a new activities and sports building to facilitate church and school ministries. The Calvary Youth and Family Center added over 12,000 square feet of space to our school and church facilities. The school budget was balanced for the first time in 1998 and the administration made the decision to become a uniformed campus, with attractive, comfortable styles for the students.
1999-2000 was equally important, with the introduction of more rigorous academic standards, greater access to scholarship funds for seniors, tougher admission standards, and the largest student enrollment in school history.
